Tips for minimizing abuse:
The majority of users on professional networks publish truthful information on their profiles. Unfortunately, there are always exceptions.
Here are a few tips to help you spot "fake profiles" and protect yourself:
- Pick out inconsistencies in career histories - somebody who is a student but has also been the manager of a company for 30 years, for example...
- Keep your personal details private: do not share your address or telephone number unless you are totally certain about a situation. Never share your personal details if you do not feel comfortable.
- Be wary of attractive financial offers or opportunities...
- Be skeptical if somebody requests financial assistance as this is often linked to fraudulent activity. Do not in any situation agree to the demands, do not send any sum of money, checks, or make any bank transfers, and contact our Customer Services team as soon as possible.
